Rockford debuts new Poll Pads as early voting begins for March election

ROCKFORD — Voters heading to the polls in the city will notice new check-in technology that utilizes iPad-based devices as a digital pollbook.

The Rockford Board of Elections has switched to using Poll Pads to check in voters. The devices were used Thursday as early voting started at the Rockford Board of Elections Office, 301 S. Sixth St. There will be 130 pads incorporated into all 35 Rockford polling places for the March 17 primary election and future votes.

The devices are designed to help mitigate long lines with a look-up and check in process that happens in 35 to 40 seconds, according to KNOWiNK, the maker of Poll Pads.
